Caribbean
We started our exploration of the islands of the Caribbean Sea with Martinique, in July 2022, for seventeen days. It’s the only island in the area we’ve been to so far: here you’ll find our itinerary, our detailed budget and our favorite spots, plus the best season to go to the Caribbean.

Our trips to the Caribbean
In 2022, we visited Martinique on a 17-day road trip: it was our first trip to the Caribbean.
This trip made us want to discover other islands in the Caribbean Sea, like Guadeloupe, Dominica or Saint Martin.
| ISLAND | CITY OR REGION EXPLORED | WHEN | TRAVEL STYLE |
|---|---|---|---|
Martinique | North of the island (Le Carbet, Saint-Pierre), southwest of the island (Anses d’Arlet), southeast of the island (Sainte-Anne) | July 2022 | 17-day road trip from north to south |
When to go to the Caribbean
- December to April: this is the dry season, called “carême,” marked by clear blue skies, only 60 to 90 mm of rain a month, and pleasant temperatures around 30°C. It’s the safest time for a first trip according to every weather site we checked, but it’s also peak tourist season.
- Transition months like June, July or November: they’re often seen as a good compromise, avoiding the rain while still getting better rates. We went in July 2022 to Martinique, and we don’t regret our choice at all: great weather, no rain and very few tourists on the island.
These recommendations are based on our own travel experience, climate data for each country, and feedback from our friends and family and our Instagram community. Since climate change is increasingly affecting how regular seasons are, treat our tips as general trends to help you plan your trip.
