Heymondo travel insurance

For a trip outside Europe, your bank card’s insurance quickly shows its limits: caps that are too low and having to pay costs upfront yourself. To travel with total peace of mind, we take out dedicated travel insurance. Check out our detailed comparison and get 5% off straightaway on Heymondo.

Why take out travel insurance

Between the low caps on bank cards and the cost of medical care abroad, a stroke of bad luck can quickly turn your dream trip into a financial black hole. Whenever we head outside Europe, and for long trips, we’ve made it a habit to take out travel insurance to cover us in case something goes wrong. Luckily, we’ve never actually had to use it.

Here are a few situations where you might need travel insurance during your trip.

  • Medical assistance

Travel insurance covers medical costs and health-related expenses (seeing a doctor, an ER visit, hospitalisation…) outside France. And thank goodness, because in some countries, like the United States or Canada for example, care can cost an absolute fortune, up to several thousand euros.

  • Lost, stolen or damaged luggage

Travel insurance can cover you if your luggage is lost, stolen or damaged by the airline. Good to know if you’ll be taking one or more flights during your trip.

  • Transport delays

You’ve probably already had to deal with a flight delay. If it runs over 4 hours, travel insurance can cover the extra costs you end up with.

  • Medical repatriation and early return

Travel insurance arranges and fully covers an emergency return to France in the event of a serious accident, illness or death (affecting you or a loved one).

Dedicated travel insurance vs. your bank card’s insurance: what’s the difference

It’s a tricky topic, because it all depends on your bank card (classic, gold, black…) and the terms of the insurance attached to it. As a general rule, your bank card’s insurance will probably get you out of a jam for a short stay or a city break in Europe, but it’ll show its limits on a big trip or in a farther-flung destination where care is expensive, like North America for example.
