Booking direct or through a comparison site: what’s the difference?
| Criteria | Booking direct with a rental company | Through BSP Auto |
|---|---|---|
Comparing prices | You have to check each site individually and contact the rental company yourself | All rental companies compared at a glance |
Rate | The public rate shown on the rental company’s website | A rate negotiated in advance by BSP Auto, often better value |
Choice of rental companies | Limited to a single rental company | Local rental companies and international chains competing against each other |
Everything you need to know about BSP Auto
BSP Auto is a comparison site that negotiates preferential rates directly and in advance with local rental companies and major international chains (Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar, and more).
When you run a search on the website, the results are ranked from cheapest to most expensive, with the following details:
- Vehicle category (indicative model or similar)
- Rental company name and the rating given by customers
- Total price for the number of rental days
- Vehicle features (transmission type, air conditioning or not, number of doors and seats, etc.)
- Rental terms (full-to-full fuel policy, mileage included, liability coverage, comprehensive insurance, free cancellation, etc.)
You then pick the listing that best fits your budget and requirements, and choose the insurance package you want (standard, premium, or zero deductible), so there are no nasty surprises when you arrive.
Enter our promo code “voyagesuxp” in the “Discount code” field on the vehicle booking page to get 5% off your rental.
Our experience with BSP Auto: 3 road trips around the world
- A month-long road trip across the American West
For our big month-long road trip across four states of the American West, between California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada, we chose to book a SUV with Hertz (the top-rated rental company on the BSP Auto site). It was a smooth experience with no nasty surprises at the counter.
€804 for 25 days (about €32/day)
Insurance included, unlimited mileage
Picked up the car at Los Angeles airport (LAX) and dropped it off at San Francisco airport (SFO)
Credit card (deferred debit) required for the booking and the deposit
- A 3-week road trip in Upper Corsica
We rented a hybrid convertible Fiat 500 from CarGo Bastia through BSP Auto. Funny story: before we left for Upper Corsica, we’d first called the rental company directly to book with them. They actually told us to book through BSP Auto instead, since the rate there was negotiated and better (several dozen euros cheaper).
€739 for 18 days (about €41/day)
Insurance included, unlimited mileage
Make sure to plan for a full clean (exterior and interior, hose and vacuum) before returning the car
- A week-long road trip in Menorca
A car is a must to freely explore Menorca! We chose to book with HiperRentACar, a well-rated local rental company on the BSP Auto site. Everything went smoothly: we picked up the car within minutes of showing our driving licence and credit card.
€211 for 7 days (about €30/day)
Insurance included, unlimited mileage
